My dog eats grass and won't eat. Could it be a sour stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 14 lbs

Zoey wants to eat / lick grass in the morning about every ten days. Doesn’t get physically sick but won’t eat or take a treat until noon. Then she recovers fine. Has had no changes in what she eats or behavior. She’ll get her annual physical early May, we are in FL until then. We 6 mo. FL & 6 mo. NY. Any thought on what issue is? She’s on Science Diet dog food and usually a very good eater.

I would have to guess that she may have some acid reflux causing her to have a sour stomach. Discuss with your vet about trying her on some antacids to see if this makes a difference. I would also try feeding her a light snack at night to keep some food in her stomach longer. If she is otherwise fine, then further testing likely isn't needed. I hope that this helps! Best wishes with your fur baby Zoey moving forward.
