Why is my diabetic cat peeing outside the box? Behavior or diabetes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 13 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

The cat is continually urinating beside the box. We tried a couple new boxes with low entry to no avail. Is this a behavioral problem or is this s problem connected to the diabetes?

It definitely could be related to diabetes if it is un/undertreated, or related to other issues such as urinary infections, arthritis, etc. If at-home changes haven't helped, it would be best to have Tee Pee examined by your vet to see if his diabetes treatment needs adjustment or if any other underlying problems are present that require care.
