My dog's spay incision is red and swollen. Could it be infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 7 months and 15 days old | 16 lbs

My dog got spayed on tuesday and we went to training today and her trainer said her incision looked red and swollen, she also got her hernia fixed but that incision seems to be healing fine. Could it possibly be infected?

I do see some redness and swelling. I'm wondering why Lucy is training so soon after getting spayed, her exercise should be restricted to allow the incision to heal properly. Hold off training for now until she is fully healed, and take her into a vet first thing in the morning to have her incision checked out. Best of luck.
