My senior cat is overweight and inactive. How can he lose weight?

My cat Texas is 10 years old, very large, and currently at 23lbs. He is completely uninterested in toys, the other cats, or any form of exercise. We put him on an indoor diet, and keep his food level very small, one meal in the morning and one at night. Is there something we can do to bring his weight down? Canned food is an effective way to lose weight. It has a higher moisture content, and had the added benefit of getting more water into Texas's diet. I would see if feeding him canned food will be an option for him. I hope this helps!
