Why is my dog lethargic, not eating, and eye discharge post-vaccine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 18 lbs

My dog was vaccinated for rabbies 10 days ago. He was not very well when vaccinated. Now he is not taking water and food at all. His eyes remains closed most of the time and mucus comes out of his eyes. I took him to the vet and he was given some medicines and a bottle of RL. What might be the reason for him not having appetite at all even though he pooped and peed today morning? He is very lathergic and tries to sleep for whole day. All this is happening severely from last 5 days.

Unfortunately these symptoms are vague and could be a sign of a number of different diseases. He could have some kind of infection, organ damage, or an autoimmune disease. I think the rabies vaccine was likely unrelated especially if he was showing some symptoms prior to vaccination. I’d recommend rechecking with your vet if Hurshy still isn’t improving - they may want to check blood work or perform some other tests since he hasn’t responded to treatment.
