My lost cat is nearby but scared. How do I get him to come home?

My cat ran away yesterday in the morning from our backyard,spent the whole day and night out and today it's almost sunset and he still doesn't come home, I searched for him and today saw him in a backyard far from ours,he tried to come when I called him,but got distracted by other cats and instead went more far in another backyard,I showed him wet food which he eats,even throw a pieces,he came to look for them and is very hungry but act like he's afraid to be catched,please for advice what to do

Oh no! I hope you get him soon! Continue to try to tempt him with food and leave him just a handful of kibble to eat close to his hiding space. You may also place his litter box outside so he can follow the scent home. Continue to try to call him to you and always be patient. Best of luck!
