Rats had no water for days. Should I take them to the vet or watch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rat | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 19 days old | 0 lbs

So I noticed my rats were acting extremely lethargic and the last couple days and now look thin and had been drinking a lot. I noticed the water wasn’t going down so I checked it and the poor babies have been without water for days it was bone dry!! I have no idea what happened and why it didn’t work. I gave them a water bowl now. Should I take them to the vet or just watch them closely through the night? shoukd I limit their water intake now that they’re drinking again?

Thanks for reaching out about Basil and Parsley. If they appears to be active and eating again, monitoring for now should be appropriate. But if you have concerns, seek veterinary attention this evening. We can judge from here as we are not looking and monitoring them, so its your judgement. Good luck.
