My dog has a false pregnancy, thinks toy is puppy. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 11 lbs

About a month ago my dogs vet informed me that she was going through a false pregnancy. Today I noticed that she thinks one of her chew toys is her puppy. She’ll even try to feed the toy by placing it on her belly. If I take the toy away, she’ll start to cry looking for it. What should I do? Is this dangerous? Do I just wait it out?

This isn't dangerous, but it is a little sad! You will just have to wait it out. I'd consider getting Sierrah spayed as dogs who have one false pregnancy are likely to experience another. Best of luck.
