Why is my dog acting strange, peeing inside after new housemate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 5 lbs

Hello my three year old miniature pinscher has been acting strangely for about a week. He is usually clingy but it’s been worse than usual. He barks if my husband even gets near me. And today he stood in the middle of our bedroom with both of us watching and urinated. The only thing that’s different is my husband brother moved in 10 days ago. Should I worry?

Poor Onyx! I recommend you have him seen by a veterinarian to help rule out medical cause for his behaviour. If he is otherwise healthy, his behaviour may be caused by stress at the new family member in the house. Try to stick to a daily routine with him, and maybe save a little of his food for your brother in law to give him daily so Onyx can have positive associations with him. I recommend working with a trainer who uses positive reinforcement to help build up Onyx's confidence and hopefully reduce his stress levels.
