Why is my dog's underarm irritated? Is it winter or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 19 lbs

Our dog has been having irritation under her front legs for the last month or so. Diet has not changed. She had been using g the same harness for about 6 months and never had issues previously. Could it be the dryness of. Winter? It seems to clear up for a day or 2 and come back.

Poor Luna! This definitely could be from the weather or if she is licking it, it could be anxiety. I would make sure she isn't licking it a lot. If so, I would put a cone collar on her to prevent it from coming back and also to help break the habit of her licking. You can try Benadryl twice a day and also spraying it with a Benadryl or cortisone spray to help it heal. If it isn't improving or if continues to come back, I would have your vet take a look at it to ensure it isn't infected. Your vet will be able to put her on additional meds like stronger allergy meds or antibiotics if needed. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/
