Moving to college apartment: Should I bring my dogs or leave them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 32 lbs

I am moving to college soon and I don't know what to do about my dogs. I have two, and we are very attached. Right now we live in a house with my dad, it has a backyard. I would be moving to an apartment and they would stay alone for the time I am in class, which shouldnt be too long periods of times. They are used to being alone together. I just don't know if I should bring them with me or leave them at home. Would it be better that I visit on weekends or bring them with me.

It is important to consider that college is more than classes! There are sports, clubs, parties, etc. that will take more of your time away from the dogs. It would be best to leave them where they are familiar and comfortable with the routine.
