Cat's brown eye discharge won't go away, fur balding. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old | 6.5 lbs

You Hello. My cat has a brown discharge coming from his left eye. I assumed it was "eye boogers", since it's reoccurring and he doesn't seem openly irritated from it besides some occasional squinting. I've been wiping it off every day and using a cat eye rinse (boric acid, filtered water, sodium borate, sodium chloride) every day, but it hasn't helped in the long term and the fur from his eye to his nose is starting to become bald from the issue

Poor Chef! I am worried that he may have a little eye infection. Since the over the counter rinse isn't working, I would have your vet take a look at it to see if some antibiotics eye drop may help. This will likely be the best solution especially since he is starting to get some irritation and possible an infection on the skin near the eye. I hope this helps!
