My dog has an open wound with clear liquid. What can I do until the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 11 years and 2 months old | 70 lbs

On Friday evening we noticed a hard spot on her left butt cheek area. On Saturday it looked like a small raw spot which we assumed was from our pug licking her so we separated them. Today it is an open wound that has clear liquid draining from it. Enclosed is a picture of it from 1:30pm today. I am unable to get her to a vet until payday later this week but need suggestions on how to care for it until then please

Wow, that looks quite deep, and Roxy needs to see a vet sooner rather than later. Gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep it clean and dry, and prevent her from licking it with an Ecollar. Get her into a vet as soon as you can. Best of luck.
