My cat has pain, can't pee. What do urine test results mean?

Hello, my cat was showing signs of abdominal pain as he was in a hunched position most of the time and I noticed that he was crying next to his litter and unable to urinate quickly. The vets suggested doing a urine test to see if he had a blockage or bacteria. I received a call from them and they said his results were normal. I asked for a copy and the results were as following: Leukocytes ++ PH 5.0 Specific Gravity 1.030 What do these mean? is PH acidic & do leukocytes indicate UTI? Thanks

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Diego. Typically the pH is high in the case of an infection. Acidic urine can predispose him to bladder stones. So it would be worth having abdominal x-rays taken to ensure this is not yhe case. The way you have it written, I suspect the leukocyte count was obtained from the urine dipstick. This tends to be inaccurate. The urine should be evaluated under the microscope for cells. If he has white blood cells under the microscope, it can indicate an infection, but inflammation is more common in cats. Cats can develop recurrent inflammation in the bladder that is painful, but no underlying cause can be identified. I would ask your veterinarian if this is a possibility. I hope this information helps!
