Why does my cat's neck smell sweet? Could it be an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 10 lbs

I noticed that my cat has a sweet smell coming from the back of her neck, NOT her mouth, about 2 days ago I was just wondering what that could be?

That is odd. Check her ears and see if that is where the odor is coming from. Infections in the ears can often smell somewhat sweet. Otherwise check her skin for any signs of irritation or hair loss. Is it possible that she may have rubbed against some sort of oil diffuser fr other scented object? I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
