Why does my cat only respond to high sounds and food, not low ones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 24 days old | 3 lbs

Hi, Asher is nearly one and is either stuggling to hear different frequenceys or is becoming arrogent. He responds very well to high noises(when I call him in a high voice) but doesn’t respond at all when it comes to low noises for example the hover, bangs or when I call him in a low voice. He listens to the sound of rattling his dreamies box and his food. What do you think is causing this

Asher is so HANDSOME! This sounds like typical cat behavior. Cats will listen to noises that they think will bring them something they want like food, treats, TLC hence why they like the high voice. With him being young, I doubt it is a hearing issue but more just behavioral. I hope this helps! He needs to be in a magazine :)
