My dog is gagging and drooling but not throwing up. Is it serious?

My dog looks like he wants to vomits but only saliva comes out of his mouth and sometimes nothing comes out at all. What should i do? Is this a serious case? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 9 days old

It could be something serious like an esophageal foreign body or obstruction, or it could be something a little less serious like kennel cough (often a productive cough looks very similar to attempted vomiting). Regardless of whether or not it is something serious I do think Koko needs an exam with your vet. I would recommend having Koko examined by a vet as soon as possible if he also seems to be painful, lethargic or in distress.
