Why is my new kitten's bum swollen, skinny, and has loose stool?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 24 days old

I got my kitten today and his anus seems to be swollen. I’m not sure if I’m over reacting or it’s normal. He has loose stool and is meowing a bit but I think that’s for attention. He is quite skinny as well. No signs of bum scooting

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The bum is a tiny bit swollen, and this could be due to diarrhea. Diarrhea could be due to worms, or food, or other problems. I recommend getting him a good dewormer as well as flea and tick prevention (fleas often carry worm eggs). Also, if Thanos is thin, I recommend a visit to the vet in the morning for a health check. Best of luck with Thanos!
