Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | 4.4 lbs

I just got a beagle on 12feb and day before yesterday he tested +ve for parvo virus, two times a day drip is going on with one time immune serum, its been 3 days and he is not active yet, vomited 4-5 times a day in yellow and white transparent liquid, loose motion in green colour. I want to know what should i expect during treatment, should he be getting better by now? He is a beagle, 50days old

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Parvovirus is very serious and requires intensive intervention and often takes at least a week, sometimes more to get them through it. What we are treating is the secondary dehydration and decreased immune function, while the body is fighting the virus, and it takes the body about 2 weeks to clear the virus. I would talk to your vet about the following: 1. IV fluids 24hr/day - if a 24 hour facility is possible 2. Anti-nausea medications (maropitant, ondansetron, metoclopramide- these are a few drugs, in India there might be different drugs) 3. Gut protectants (omeprazole) 4. Pain relief if needed 5. checking the blood to see if there are low white blood cells, if present then antibiotics should be considered. Best of luck with Messi, I hope he feels better soon, but keep going as it does take a long time to get them through it.
