Why are my dog's eyes showing whites at the top? Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 6 years and 3 months old | 14 lbs

My Chi/Pug mix (6 yrs) woke up and the whites of his eyes at the top are showing. Normally He rolls his eyes downward and doesn't close them completely when he sleeps and they dance around. It's like they got stuck looking down a little. He isn't in pain and seems to see fine. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you!

This sounds unusual - there are some neurologic diseases that might cause the muscles around the eyes to dysfunction but typically you would see other symptoms as well, like difficulty walking or decreased vision. It would probably be safest to have him examined by a veterinarian in person to determine what might be going on. A picture might help us as well if you're able to take one and repost your question.
