Why is my dog's bark hoarse and weak after anesthesia and surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 55 lbs

Does gas anaesthesia affect barking? Does it also affect the nerves? (She can't blink her left eye and facial muscles on the left side are impaired) I haven't heard her bark since 1 week ago i.e. post her pyometra surgery. Today I heard her bark, it is not clear. If this is recoverable the by she should be fine?

She may have a "sore throat" from the endotracheal tube used to maintain an airway during anesthesia. Crystal should regain her "voice" in the next few days. If not, have her rechecked. Properly administered anesthesia generally does not affect facial nerves. This may be a separate issue. Consider having this addressed by your veterinarian.
