Pet's info: Dog | DOG-LARGE-LONGHAIR | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs
Hi there! My 9 year old Afghan Hound just started digging/making everyone’s beds, the sofas, and sometimes the carpet, and whining. She comes in the middle of the night or the morning and make the pillows and harshly cuddles and whines. I have felt everywhere in her body, and in her mouth to see if she is in pain, but nothing. He whining is more frustrated than pain. She is not spayed and always been healthy. Her appetite is great and she happily play with activity toys. What can it be?

Hello. With any odd change in behavior, you do want to follow up with your veterinarian as soon as possible. Hormonal changes from cystic ovaries, for example, can cause unusual behavior, & in an unsprayed older pet, the development of a pyometra could potentiate subtle signs of pain or discomfort. You should definitely make Minou an appointment to have some routine blood work done, followed up by any diagnostic imaging such as x-rays or ultrasound to be sure there are no underlying medical reasons for her unusual behavior. I hope all is well & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
