Why does my dog's skin tag have a clear fluid-filled bubble?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 years and 9 months old | 60 lbs

My dog has a clear fluid filled bubble that just developed today on an existing skin tag that she has had for years. Is this a sign of skin tag infection, a normal discharge from skin tags, or something more serious?

Normally skin tags do not form fluid. This has probably occurred because of some sort of irritation and/or inflammation to the skin tag. I would recommend trying to use a warm compress for 10-15 minutes to see if the swelling will go down. If the lesion continues to fill with fluid or the area becomes red, irritated or inflamed, you should take Ana Mae to the veterinarian to be checked out.
