My cat has an ear infection, on antibiotics, not eating, loose stool.

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 9 years and 8 months old | 10 lbs

Coco was diagnosed with a double middle ear infection (via and MRI) 3 weeks ago and has been on anitboics since and has at least 3 more weeks to go. He is doing better with balance and is eating wet food (mainly gravy) and wet treats. However, he is not eating hard food or having a solid stool. I know it could take 6-8 weeks for him to feel better so is this still a side effect? He will crunch 1 hard treat to pieces but not eat it. Could I do anything to help if it’s maybe pain? Or a probiotic?

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Coco. I'm sorry he isn't doing well. It's great that he is eating wet food, and the most important thing is that he's getting nutrition in him. It's fine that he's avoiding dry food at the moment. I'd be more worried if he wasn't eating at all. Antibiotics can cause GI upset, so that may be playing a part in his loose stools and lack of appetite. Try to tempt him to eat by offering him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) with some low sodium gently warmed chicken broth. Do not give him any human pain medication, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. I would contact his vet to let them know you are seeing this behavior, and they will advise you if they want you to bring him back in for a check up. I hope this helps!
