My dog is vomiting, sluggish, and has hypothyroidism. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | 9 years and 1 month old

My dog, Chewie, has vomited 3 times in the last 6 hours. I am fasting him now, and only offering water. I don't know why he is sick. He does have hypothyroidism. He does not appear to be dehydrated, but seems sluggish. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm sorry that Chewie is not feeling well. Unfortuantely, vomiting is a very non-specific symptom. Pretty much anything can cause vomiting in dogs so I cannot tell you why this is happening. You are doing just right by withholding food. Just be sure to offer only small amounts of water at a time. If he continues to vomit in the next 6-8 hours you should get him to the vet right away. Continued vomiting can be serious.
