Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 75 lbs
My golden has dry, red patches on his elbows. What is this and how can I help? It’s looking better since I put veteracyn on it(he scratched it and it had a little wound on it) and since I started adding fish oil to his diet. It’s still not good so how do I treat it? Recommend any products or steps to take.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any).
