Senior dog lethargic, shivering, won't lift head. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 13 years and 6 months old | 48 lbs

Senior beagle lethargic, won't lift head past shoulders, slow movements. Some full body shivering. Noticed today 2/13. Eating, drinking and bathroom habits are normal. No past illnesses. Last vet visit 1 month ago, no life threatening issues detected. Does this warrent an emergency vet visit or can she be seen by regular vet tomorrow?

It sounds like she is in pain. She could have a problem with her neck or back causing the pain. Since she is otherwise acting normal, it might not be an emergency but taking her to the emergency clinic tonight would give her some relief and make her feel a lot better. She may need an anti-inflammatory, pain medications, and a muscle relaxer. Hope she feels better soon!
