Why does my dog's breath smell awful after neuter antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | 1 year old | 65 lbs

My one-year-old golden retriever was neutered on Friday. On Monday, he destroyed his cone and got to his incisions. He was put on an antibiotic yesterday. Since starting the antibiotic his mouth and saliva smells absolutely awful. Should I be concerned about this?

That is unusual and it may be that the antibiotics are upsetting his tummy. I recommend to call your veterinarian and ask what they want you to do. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
