My kitten isn't eating all his food. Is he full or just picky?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 months and 4 days old | 4.5 lbs

How can I know if my kitten likes his food, or if he just isn't that hungry? I feed my kitten 1/4th cup of dry food twice daily and he doesn't ever finish the whole 1/4th cup. He is four months old and his vet says he is at a healthy weight but I am concerned that he is not eating enough. The food he is currently eating is what the shelter we got him from was feeding him as well.

If your vet says Calcifer is at a healthy weight, then I wouldn't worry. It sounds like he is eating what he needs, and he's stopping when he's full. That's good because you don't want him to overeat. Best of luck.
