Why isn't my dog's nail infection getting better on antibiotics?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 4 months old

Panda has a nail bed infection he is being treated with rimadyl and cephalexin he is halfway through his course of antibiotics and rimadyl I thought it was clearing up but today it is looking red again ge does have a gap between the skin and the nail I cleaned it with Clorohexadin does he need more time for meds to work or needs further treatment last time he had a toe infection it didn't respond to antibiotics and he ended up having the toe removed as the bone was infected

It would be best to finish the course of oral antibiotic before deciding whether a different type or local formulation (an ointment) would be required. Resistant infections or fungal infections can cause severe damage if not recognize and treated. I would suggest to discuss with your local vet a bacterial swab of the nail in case no improvement are seen.
