Is my dog's paw bandage supposed to look bulky after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 11.4 lbs

My dog had surgery on his paw yesterday to check for foreign body and remove tissue for biopsy. I don’t know if the bandage looks right? Seems to go out at an angle and flicks out to the side rather than following natural shape of his paw and flicking out at the front. He won’t put any weight on it which I’m guessing is normal the day after surgery but don’t want it to actually be because the bandage is forcing it into an uncomfortable angle and I’m doing nothing about it! Does this look normal?

The bandage looks good. There's a lot of layers to bandaging, and there will be materials like cotton wrap underneath to protect and support, giving it the awkward appearance. It doesn't mean his foot is in that position, his foot should be in it's normal position but the layers make it look this way. It is normal that Brady doesn't want to put weight on it the day after surgery, as his foot is likely painful. I hope this helps.
