Dog still has green nasal discharge & new vulva crusting after meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | 3 years and 3 months old | 47 lbs

Our dog is sneezing and has mucus in one nostril. She was on antibiotics that lessened the symptoms but didn’t make them disappear. The mucus is a light green. She is eating, drinking, and playing normally. We tried Benadryl for her allergies which lightly helps. She is a 47lb lab mix. Today we noticed brown crusting by her vulva. Maybe from the antibiotics? We recently adopted a puppy. (4 months old) who is showing no symptoms of anything unusual.

Poor Mocha! It's possible that the single course of antibiotics wasn't enough, or this is some other issue ongoing, especially if she is showing new symptoms as well. It would be best to bring her back into your vet for a recheck to see if she needs another course of antibiotics, or additional testing/treatment to address the new issues and treat the old ones. If she is not spayed, the vulva changes could be due to hormonal changes/going into heat, or from irritation due to urinary issues, allergies, or other problems, which may or may not be related to the nasal discharge which is why another exam is best.
