My dog has swollen eyes with yellowish discharge. What should I do?

Hello Sir/Mam, Lucy is a stray female mother dog of three cubs. Yesterday, I saw her eyes which were swollen. Her right eye is more swollen than the left one. I saw yellowish fluid in her right eye. Please, suggest me an appropriate advice for Lucy's problem. Sorry about the photos. I have not had any photos of Lucy.

It sounds like Lucy has an eye infection at the very least. There are many knock on issues that can occur in eyes so it would be best to have her examined by a vet in case there is any serious damage. In the case of infection she will need to have the eyes gently cleaned with sterile water then antibiotic eye drops applied. I would urge you to speak to a local vet regarding this though.

    With these signs I would be concerned Lucy could have an oral abscess causing her pain and swelling. She could also have an issue with her TMJ joint or even the tissues behind her eye. Lucy needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Do not give her any human pain medication as it can be toxic to dogs. You can try to give her a gruel of her normal food to lap up as it may be easier for her to eat that way.

Poor girl. It is very lkely Lucy has a corneal scratch or ulcer on her eye due to trauma or some chemical (Shampoo's are commonly the culprt) setting on her eye. I would highly recommend taking her in to your vet right away for an eye exam, test for a corneal ulcer, and then prescription eye medication to hopefully get this to heal quickly. The longer you wait on eye conditions, the increased chance of permanent damage to the eye, so its best to take her in today if possible. You can apply a cold compress on her eye for 5-10 minutes now to help with some of the discomfort and inflammation until you can get her in to be seen by your vet. I hope that your pet Lucy is able to make a full and speedy recovery from her eye injury, poor girl. Best wishes and take care!

What could be wrong with my dog’s eye?
That looks like it could be a string of the normal eye discharge, an actual cloth string or (less common in the United States) a worm. Use some sterile ophthalmic saline and put in 3-4 drops in her eye. Gently rub on the upper eye lid to try to dislodge the discharge. Try to wipe it out with a clean, dry cotton ball. If you cannot dislodge this object, have Lucy examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog has a swallon eye with gunk around in, what should I do
That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hi I believe my dog has an infected tear gland she is a 6 year old pug wondering if u can recommend something I can do at home to help her
I can't see Lily's eyes in the picture, but if she has swelling around her eyelids, it is possible that she has a bacterial infection. Eye issues can progress rapidly, so I recommend taking her to a vet as soon as possible. Until that time, try gently applying warm compresses to her eye for 10 minutes a 3 times per day. Also put an e-collar (cone) on to prevent her from scratching at her eyes, as this will dramatically make issues worse. I hope that she feels better soon!

Looks like my dog might have an eye infection or got something in her eyes
This could be an eye infection (and, looking at the photo the eye lids are very swollen there is a discharge and your dog is squinting because it is painful) caused either by bacteria, inflammation, or possibly even mechanical damage caused by ingrown hairs , or eye lashes. Eye problems are always emergencies. You will need to take Summer to a veterinarian or Pet ER for an exam now, please.

With the strong winds today Suzie has something in her eye. It is swollen around the eye and she has pain when I open her eye. I have been using nutri vet eye rinse for dogs to rinse her eye. What should I do?
Poor girl. Because she is keeping her eye closed, it is very likely she has a scratch or ulcer on her cornea (eye surface). Because of this type of injury, Suziee Lu will need to see your vet to have the eye checked. If there is a scratch, as suspected, then she will need topical prescription eye medication to get this to heal properly. It is ok to wipe the outside of the lid with warm salt water until you can get her in to your vet for further care. Try to get her seen soon to avoid further trauma to the eye which may be irreversible. I hope that Suzie Lu's eye injury resolves soon! Best of luck and take care. : )

Dog suddenly had eye swollen and protruding.
This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

My dog has had discharge and pawing at here eye and i removed a portion of the discharge which is black but the corner if the eye towards nose is swollen eye duct i guess and whole eye is red
It looks like the discharge may be caused by whatever is irritating the eye. If it is in just 1 eye, possibilities include a blocked tear duct, conjunctivitis, dust in the eye, infection, corneal abrasion or ulcer, or others. If both eyes are affected, it could also be caused by allergies. I recommend loosening the remaining dark eye discharge by warming it with a warm, wet washcloth and rubbing very gently. You can use a saline eye flush to gently flush the eye to remove any possible irritating debris. If the eye is still red in 24-48 hours, or if Fluffy starts to squint her eye or rub it with her paw, she needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

Poor girl. It would help if you posted a picture here, but it does sound like Ayumi has possible conjunctivitis. If the discharge is yellow or green, then there is an infection that should be checked by your vet. The vet needs to do an eye stain to check for any ulcers/scratches on the eye surface, and then prescribe eye ointment/drops to allow this to heal. It is possible that blowing in her face could have inadvertently caused dust or debris to go into her eye and cause irritation or there could be another cause altogether. Eye problems in dogs can't be treated with anything over the counter unfortunately, so its best to get her seen by your vet soon for treatment. I hope that your furry friend Ayumi gets resolution for her eye problem soon. Best wishes and take care.

My coonhound gets droopy eyes with a lot of gunk in them every now and then. I assume it's allergies but the last couple days they have been so bad he can barely keep his eyes open and they look swollen. He has not gotten into any poisonous weeds or
He can have a possible infection or conjunctivitis since it is affected both eyes. Since the discharge is getting worse and he does not want to open his eyes, it is best he sees a vet to determine if there is a scratch on the cornea or just an infection. There is topical antibiotics +/- a steroid to help clear them. The only thing you can do at home is rinse with sterile eye wash and try to apply a warm compress to help with the swelling.
