Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 11 months old | 15 lbs
My cat, within the past hour or so, has woken up mewing and grabbing the nearest object (a pillow, the couch, my sleeve) to hold in his mouth after this happens. He's had a few episodes of this happen before. It's always immediate and lasts no longer than a minute. Wake up, cry, grab something with his mouth. Should I be worried? Could this be a sign of a health problem, since he's 12? Can cats have nightmares? Thank you in advance!

That is odd! It’s unknown if pets have nightmares and I’m not sure that we will ever be able to know. Watch Cow for any health issues such as weight loss, imbalance, vomiting or diarrhea and have him seen if these are noted. If you can record the episode, that would be helpful as well. You can always have him seen by his veterinarian and if he gets a clean bill of health, then you can be assured it’s all just behavioral. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
