What if my dog licked mouse poison? What symptoms should I watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 40 lbs

Hi there, there was a mouse in my apartment 6 weeks ago, so an exterminator came and put poison in the small crack in my closet. I forgot to close the door today and my dog seems fine and the poison is undisturbed, but what would the symptoms be if he had licked it? He’s 40 pounds. What should I look for? Thanks!

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Louis. Unfortunately I cannot give you a definitive answer because it depends on the type of poison that was laid out. Some poisons are anti-coagulants causing excessive bleeding while others cause neurological symptoms. Contact the exterminator or the manager of the apartment to find out the type of poison that was placed, and then post again so we can help you. To be safe, you can take Louis into a vet immediately to get checked out. Best oil uck.
