My hamster has a black patch on his testicle. What is it and is it painful?

My hamster has a black patch with scabs on his testicle that don't look like normal skin coloration, what is it and what can I do? Also, does it hurt him

Thanks for reaching out. Could this be a bite wound from the other hamster? The dark skin is probably necrotic (dead) dermis. It could be an abscess. Infections should be treated with systemic antibiotics and possible anti-inflammatories/analgesia, as it could be painful. A veterinary visit is recommended, as only a veterinarian can prescribe antibiotics. Good luck.

    Hello, without pictures or an exam, my first thoughts are your bedding material may be irritating to the hamsters delicate skin. Try replacing it with a softer material & see if things clear up. thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
