Dog ate toxic burning bush berries for years. Any hidden damage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 1 month old

dog has been eating burning bush berries for years. I just learned they are toxic to dogs and am a little worried. he has never had any symptoms of them affecting him but he eats them a lot and now I'm worried the damage might not be physically noticable.

Typically you would see pretty immediately signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness, and heart rhythm abnormalities. You can take Chester into the vet to make sure everything is ok physically, and I would remove the bush from your property and do not allow him access to any. Best of luck.
