Is it safe to use non-stick pans like Teflon around pet birds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, I was wondering if I could still use teflon with a bird in the house. I know of its dangers, but my mom won't let them go and she says PTFE and PFOA pans don't work as good and are expensive. I wanted to know if there is a way to still use teflon pans without causing harm to my bird, Thank you.

As long as the pans are in good condition (no scratches, etc) and your birds are not kept in the kitchen, it should be OK to use. Keeping your birds in a well-ventilated area away from the kitchen when cooking or using the pans can help keep them safe.
