Why is my senior dog crying and disoriented due to vision loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 13 years and 5 months old | 6 lbs

I know Leela is losing her ability to see but, when she walks around the house (usually in the morning) she seems disoriented and starts making crying noises until I take her to her bed in the living room (since that's where she's trying to go). Is there a reason why she's crying?

It probably is because Leela is losing her sight. That can be upsetting for a dog, and it does take time for them to adjust to sight loss. Given that you pick her up and take her into her bed, she knows that by crying out to you, you will help her.
