Is a rash or bruise on my dog's neck normal after recent vaccines?

Pet's info: Dog | Chinese Crested | Male | neutered

We brought my dog yesterday to get his bordetella vaccine and rabies shot. A few hours later he started developing this rash, bruise like patch on his neck it doesn’t seem to hurt him, he’s still eating drinking and playing im just concerned as to why this appeared. We’re going back to the vet tomorrow to make sure it’s ok I’m just wondering if you could give me an answer just to ease my mind a little.

I’m wondering if Friday also had blood drawn for a heartworm test - the jugular vein is often used for venipuncture and bruising can be common. A platelet problem or other clotting disorder could also cause bruising. I think seeing your vet is a good idea.

    Hi, thanks for using a Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Luke! It appears to be a large bruise. Did your vet take blood for any tests? We commonly use the jugular vein which is in the neck to get blood. If blood was NOT drawn I would take him in today for an exam. I would want t be sure his platelets and clotting times were normal. Good luck!

My yorkie has a red bruise on his neck. He did go to the vet Tuesday to have blood work done. Could they have drawn blood from his jugular? It's not swollen but it's concerning me.
Yes, the jugular vein is almost always used for blood draws in dogs unless only a drop or two is needed - this is common practice, and very normal :) It's possible that there might be some bruising for a few days in this area, just like in humans after a blood draw. If he's acting normal and the area is not swollen, this is likely not any cause for concern. If the bruise seems to be getting larger, or if he is acting painful or lethargic, you can always take him back in for a recheck to make sure everything is okay.

Hello there, Did Casanova have blood drawn today while he was there? This could be a completely normal bruise from a common blood draw site. Another possibility is an insect sting to cause small swelling like this. It is difficult to appreciate the swelling and color changes from the picture, as many light furred pets have dark skin and this can be normal. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

This doesn't sound unreasonable, it's not always easy to get blood from the first attempt if the dog is small and not cooperating. the Jugular vein (neck) is in many cases the first choice of many veterinarians, especially with small dogs.

This could be a skin reaction to a sting or bite, or a cyst or a little abscess or in fact a small tumor or wart. I suggest you observe the spot weekly, and if it changes in size or color or if it starts to hurt or the skin around it turns red, then you should have it examined by your veterinarian. If it stays the same or gets smaller, then it is likely nothing you have to worry about and you can show it to your vet the during the next routine visit.

This actually looks like dried blood. It's difficult to tell from the pictures, but I would first make sure that it's not something that can be washed off. If it's not, then this would be from bleeding under this skin and would indicate a clotting disorder - in this case, it would be an emergency and you should take Frank to the vet as soon as possible. Hello, Its hard to give you definitive advise, because this could be nothing or something. Most likely, t could also be a simple insect bite or minor trauma that resolves on its own within a couple of days. However, I'd recommend monitoring that bruise for any changes and the rest of his skin and gums for new bruising or bleeding. Mysterious bruises can be a sign of blood disorders. If Charlie experiences any additional bruising, bleeding, or changes in appetite or behavior, I'd recommend taking him to the vet right away. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

It looks like it is on the right thigh? It is possible that this could be a deep skin infection, a demodex mite problem, a mass (tumor), or even a Rabies vaccine reaction site. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. They may recommend looking for mites, an oral antibiotic, or even a biopsy. Yes, you can see some swelling in the area where the vaccine was given. I would keep an eye on this area, and if it doesn't go down over the next couple of days or gets larger, I would have Bruno seen by a vet.

What could this be?
That redness could indicate a bacterial infection. Sometimes the infection is a primary problem but sometimes it can indicate an allergy or allergic reaction. Less commonly, skin mites can look like this. On the right side, there is a very dark red discoloration. This could be present if he is licking or scratching at it. The concern I have is if that red discoloration is bruising. Bruising is not normal in dogs and is considered indicative of a possible emergency. Reasons for bruising include an autoimmune disorder, eating rat poison, a bleeding disorder or liver disease. If you suspect that is a bruise, I recommend to have Jax seen by the veterinarian quickly. A skin rash is not an emergency. You need to keep him from licking the area by making him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. You can wash the area daily with hand soap and rinse well. You can apply a dab of coconut oil and rub it in well a couple times a day. If it is not much better with in a week, take him to his vete
