Should my 11-week puppy socialize before all vaccinations are done?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 20 days old | 47 lbs

I was in a Petco Pet Education Center and was encouraged to bring my 11 week old puppy in for their puppy play sessions. Even after I divulged he’s only had 2 rounds of vaccinations. Is it advisable to do this or should I wait till he’s had his 3rd vaccination? The lady mentioned the odds are better he’ll be put down from lack of socializing rather than something medical. Please help!

Thank you for contacting us with your question about Luke! I certainly understand your reservation about getting him into puppy play sessions if he's only had two rounds of vaccines. I personally do not recommend socialization until after the third round of vaccine. There is plenty of time to socialize him, and you don't want to take the risk that he does come into contact with a deadly disease such as parvo or distemper. Personally, I think waiting is fine. I hope this helps.
