My 11-year-old Shih Tzu has a bleeding ear lump. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 11 years and 4 months old | 25 lbs

I have an 11 year old shih tzu male. I had noticed a small pink squishy bump near his ear , I assumed it was just a skin tag. I'm now noticing that it's starting to bleed randonly(I clean it right away) but I'm concerned because i dont know if it is an innocent histiocytoma or mast cell tumor. If you could please give me your opinion. My vet said she cant tell for sure just by the appearance, which I completely understand I just thought I'd get a second opinion before I book the test.

Unfortunately I also can't tell by just a look, but in an 11 year old dog, there is always a concern any lump could be malignant. It's a very good idea to have Dime seen by her vet and have this tested.
