My dog's penis exposed for first time, looks red. Is it serious?

Hi, My dog’s penis (not prepuce) just showed for the first time. I think he might have been licking it and suddenly felt a little pain, because he gave a little squeak/scream and immediately stopped doing whatever he was doing. The penis is now back underneath the prepuce, but some red flesh is still visible from the outside. As I said, this is the first time I witness this, and I fear that my dog will just keep licking at it. Was this most likely a harmless incident or should I be worried? Hi. Yes this is.most likley a harmless inicdent that probly wont happen again. I would recommend getting an evollar cone to have him wear for a.couple days to keep him from licking. I would also recommend placing a small amount of lube.or vaseline or ky jelly in the rip of that prepuce to lube it. If it gets worse at all get him in. Good luck
