My dog's carpal pad is bleeding. Should I bandage or see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 73 lbs

Hi there, my dog was running in the dog park and started limping, after a closer look, it appears as if blood is coming from her carpal pad. The park was icy, so I reckon she cut it in ice. The carpal pad appears intact, and it was very minor bleeding. Does she need more than bandaging and rest?

If there was minor bleeding and the carpal pad is intact, I'd just bandage and rest Bee. Keep an eye for signs of infection which include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. If you see any of those signs, she will need to see her a vet. Do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck.
