Will kennel cough be serious for my senior dog with a trachea issue?

Scottie is 11 and had a hole in his trachea after an attack from a few years ago, one of his puppy friends has kennel cough and I am worried about what will happen if he catches it. With his age and previous health condition, will kennel cough be more serious for him? Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 11 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

Hello. Possibly, especially if the trachea has scarred in decreasing the diameter or weakening the trachea in the area of the wound. I would recommend keeping Scottie vaccinated with the kennel cough vaccine. It may not totally prevent him from getting the virus, but the effects may be less severe. For now, I would not let Scottie play with his friend until his friend is no longer coughing. Kennel cough can take up to 3 weeks to run its course.
