My rabbit has reddish-brown pee. Should I be worried or see a vet?

Hello :) I'm Rose and I got my first pet rabbit Snow last week. The pet shop gave me the mixed seeds and pellets food to give him as it was what they where already giving him until then. Four days later I noticed that he was having some reddish-brown coloured pee. I was a bit concerned but after a LOT of research I got to the conclusion that since he runs around all day happily , eats and drinks lots , it is okay.should I take him to the vet? Thank you for your time! Have a great day

Hello. What you are seeing are porphyrin pigments in the urine. This is perfectly normal & may come & go. Make sure his pelleted diet is fresh & appropriate for rabbits. Rabbits absolutely need hay & grasses to live well & should be available to Snow all day long. You can feed other green leafy plants such as broccoli, cabbage, chard, parsley, celery leaves, watercress, kale, endive & carrot & beet tops. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
