Could my dog's limp tail and spinal pain be lumbosacral disease?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

4yr old Puerto Rican Import RottweilerF. Got in the fall. Always happy. Service Dog work started. No trauma occured. One morning (during her heat) her tail was totally limp. Her back feet slid a little at the vets office. Not too bad. X-RAYS and bloodwork fine. Definite spinal pain. The spine itself, Not muscles around it. She does yelp then shiver if she needs out really bad. Her tail is almost high again. No issues walking or dragging toes. No incontinence. Vet says Lumbosacral Disease???

She is quite a beauty. Without seeing the x-ray and doing an exam myself, I cannot confirm or deny that diagnosis. Lumbosacral disease is usually where they have a pinched nerve due to arthritis, a genetic abnormality, or a bulging disc in that area. It can cause issues like he is showing. I would certainly get him on long term joint supplements. I would also consider trying to find an integrative or alternative vet who specializes in acupuncture and Chinese herbs as these can be amazing for long term therapy and maintenance in these cases. I hope this helps!
