My puppy has yellow-green discharge after an injury. Vet trip needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 9 days old | 37 lbs

About 3 weeks ago, our 5 month old lab broke her hymen at daycare. We saw our vet who diagnosed this and confirmed she was NOT in heat. She prescribed antibiotics as a precaution. Ever since, we've noticed a daily yellow mucus/discharge coming from her lady parts that has sometimes looked a touch green if I get it with a tissue. She is totally normal otherwise, sometimes pees more than once in a trip outside, but no accidents inside. Is this worth a trip to the vet again?

Yes, it is definitely worth a trip to the vet. Even if she did not previously have an infection, Shiloh may be dealing with one now. Infections of the uterus (called pyometra) can sometimes present this way, and they can be deadly if not treated. She may also have a vaginitis or urinary tract infection that needs treatment. Good luck, and I hope Shiloh feels better soon!
