My dog ate a balloon and seems okay. Is an emergency vet needed?

I think my dog just ate a balloon, he seems OK and has eaten other strange things before but I'm still concerned. Should I find an emergency vet?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Balloons can either pass uneventfully, or can cause a blockage. Balloons are more likely to cause a blockage as they often fill with stuff in the stomach and then become a big ball, so we recommend getting to a vet ASAP to induce vomiting. If you can't get to a vet, monitor very very carefully and any signs of vomiting, not eating, painful abdomen, get to a vet right away as surgery might then be required. Best of luck with Enzo!

You will need to monitor him closely, if the vomiting continue or if he stops eating or becomes lethargic then it is likely he suffers from an obstruction and you will need to take him to the vet urgently.
