My dog's internal dissolvable stitches: incision opened. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 55 lbs

If Scooby got dissolvable stitches does that mean they’re internally because I wasn’t able to see them? If so part of the incision open up a bit but it’s scabbing and drying up, it’s been 13 days would the internal stitches still be closed up and just the outer skin opened up? Is that possible? He’s been wearing a cone the whole time so he didn’t mess with it also.

Dissolvable stitches means that it is very likely you will not see anything and there is no need to remove them. To be able to evaluate the the wound breakdown and possible exposure of underlying layers (and so the potential risk of infection) I would need to at least see a picture of the wound.
